Learn to Drive with Confidence in an Automatic Car
Build your confidence with professional automatic driving lessons in Cardiff. Learn in a modern dual-control car, develop your road skills and prepare for your practical driving test with supportive instruction.
Build your skills and confidence with automatic driving lessons in Cardiff from Driving Portal. Our friendly and patient instructors help you understand the road, feel comfortable behind the wheel and work towards safe, independent driving.
Whether you are a new pupil or already have some driving experience, we tailor your tuition to your starting point. Learn in an automatic car without managing a clutch pedal or manual gear changes.
We offer driving lessons across Cardiff, including Roath, Albany Road, Llanishen and the city centre.
Automatic driving lessons teach you to drive a car that changes gears automatically. You practise steering, braking, observation and road positioning without operating a clutch. Our Cardiff tuition helps you connect these controls with safe decisions at junctions, roundabouts and crossings, then develop the confidence to drive independently.
An automatic can make the controls feel more manageable, particularly if coordinating gears has interrupted your progress. However, you still need to recognise hazards, judge gaps and respond safely to other road users.
The aim is to understand each situation and make good decisions, even when you encounter an unfamiliar road.
Our automatic lessons cost £65 for 1.5 hours or £85 for 2 hours. The standard 10-hour automatic block costs £415.
Limited-time special offer: book 10 hours of automatic driving lessons for £400, saving £15 on the standard block price.

The standard block works out at £41.50 per hour; the limited-time £400 offer works out at £40 per hour. A 10-hour block covers tuition time; it does not guarantee that a beginner will reach test standard within those hours.
If you are looking for driving lessons at competitive prices, compare session length, hourly cost and booking conditions together.
A cost-effective choice should also suit how you learn. Consider whether you can attend consistently and use feedback between sessions. Paying for a discounted block only offers value for money if the arrangement works for you.
Choosing an automatic driving school means finding tuition that suits both your learning needs and your schedule.
Driving Portal combines local driving instructors, one-to-one teaching and clear pricing. Our team includes Ibrar and Rizwan, alongside our other instructors, who support learners at different stages of their driving journey.

Feeling nervous does not mean you cannot become a capable driver. Tell your instructor what concerns you, whether that means approaching a busy roundabout, meeting oncoming traffic or recovering from a previous learning experience.
Breaking a task into smaller steps can help. At a junction, for example, you can work on approach speed, observation and gap selection before bringing those skills together.
Your lessons with us should help you understand what went well, what needs attention and what to practise next.
Share your previous driving experience, Cardiff postcode and preferred lesson times. Explain whether you are a beginner, switching transmission or returning after a break.
This conversation helps us understand your needs before you start your driving lessons.
Become familiar with the seating position, mirrors, transmission selector and pedals. Practise moving away, steering and stopping smoothly while developing observation habits.
Understanding the controls gives you a foundation for handling more demanding situations.
Progress towards junctions, pedestrian crossings, roundabouts and roads with parked vehicles. Learn how speed, positioning and observation affect the space and time you have to respond.
As you learn to drive in Cardiff, you need to recognise changing conditions rather than rely on one fixed routine.
Work towards making safe decisions with fewer prompts. Following directions, choosing appropriate lanes and adapting to unfamiliar roads all contribute to independent driving.
Your instructor’s feedback helps you identify the difference between completing a task with help and managing it consistently yourself.
Discuss the skills that still need practice before deciding whether you are ready. Preparation should cover vehicle safety questions, manoeuvres, observation and safe decisions under pressure.
GOV.UK advises learners to take their test when they can meet the required standard without instruction.
Our coverage includes Llanishen, Roath, Albany Road and Cardiff city centre, alongside other areas across the city. Send your postcode when enquiring so we can discuss instructor availability and lesson arrangements.
Learning in the capital of Wales brings varied situations: residential streets, shopping areas, busy junctions and roads where parked cars reduce the available space.
Local knowledge helps your instructor explain these situations. However, memorising a test route cannot replace the ability to assess an unfamiliar road.
Discuss your intended test centre with your instructor before booking. Local test preparation should develop transferable skills, so you can respond safely wherever the examiner directs you.
If you are comparing driving schools in South Wales from outside Cardiff, including Newport, contact us to check whether we can accommodate your location before making a booking.
We offer automatic and manual driving courses, including an intensive course option for learners who can commit to concentrated tuition.
This approach may suit someone with previous experience who needs focused practice, or a learner whose schedule makes regular weekly sessions difficult. The appropriate course depends on your starting point and the skills you still need to develop.
Before booking, discuss:
Wanting to pass fast is understandable, but a shorter learning schedule does not guarantee test readiness or an immediate appointment. Choose a course that gives you enough time to develop safe habits.
The number of lessons depends on your starting point, progress and opportunities to practise. GOV.UK sets no minimum number before the practical test. Your instructor can help you assess readiness by reviewing whether you drive safely, make sound decisions and manage different situations without prompts.
Focus on consistent performance rather than reaching a particular lesson total.
Yes, you can switch from manual to automatic tuition without starting every part of learning again. Your observation, road awareness and positioning skills remain useful. You will need time to adapt to the car’s controls, and your instructor can assess which areas need further practice.
Tell us what you have already covered when you enquire.
A pass rate can provide context, but it does not tell you how well an instructor will suit you. Ask what period the figure covers, how many tests it includes and whether it counts first attempts only. Also consider teaching style, learner feedback and clear explanations.
When comparing an ADI or a well-established school, look for evidence behind any performance claim.
You can tell us if you would prefer a female driving instructor when you enquire. We will need to confirm whether we can accommodate that request for automatic tuition in your area and at your preferred times before you make a booking. Please check availability directly.
Include any instructor preferences alongside your postcode and availability.
Please contact Driving Portal to confirm whether we currently offer refresher tuition, Pass Plus or gift vouchers. Availability for these options requires a separate check, and this page does not include them in the standard lesson packages. Explain what you need so we can advise before you book.
For refresher enquiries, describe your licence entitlement and the situations you would like help with.
